THE LEBANESE PUZZLE

THE LEBANESE PUZZLE

Yes, the picture is not rosy, I must admit it. The problem, as we all realize it, is that both 8th and 14th March have been playing the cards of their foreign supporters.  None of them wants what is good for LEBANON, unfortunately.

So, what are the citizens to do in such a jungle? They have two options: Either, fold their arms and wait for the puzzle to unfold, or act to defend their rights. The way that we are going now, we shall all be losers in the end. We shall either be left with a bankrupt country or be left with a Lebanese wilaye of Iran. Of course, the right decision would be to try and retake possession of our country, stop the corruption, introduce the reforms, repay our debt over the next 20 years, and organize ourselves to take advantage of our oil & gas resources intelligently.

This would require that March 8 and 14 decide to work together, and that the banking lobby agrees to reduce the interest on the debt by two per cent. Will it happen? I believe that it may, if we succeed in finding a strong enough referee (The next President of the Republic) to convince the two opposing blocks that this is the only way out of the mess, for the country.

This is why, my friends, I have been saying all along:  “ASK ALL THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO SHOW UP THEIR CARDS BEFORE VOTING FOR THEM". This is what nobody thought of mentioning when they took part in Marcel Ghanem's discussion about a " strong " president. Nobody thought of defining what that "STRENGTH" was all about.

I am sorry to have to admit that the majority of the Lebanese are "SHORT SIGHTED ". What they need is a pair of very strong binoculars.

Claudia Al Asmar likes this.

George Sabat I feel that you fully understood the message that I was desperately trying to convey in that article, Claudia. We CAN solve that puzzle, Claudia, and we OUGHT TO. It really requires a minimum of COMMON SENSE. Let the Lebanese realize at least that, for two thousand years, all the conquerors have tried their best to take possession of these 10,452 sq. kms. and they all, ultimately, failed. The signs in Nahr El Kelb are there to prove it. Iran and Saudi Arabia are"now both trying their best to renew that experiment. Shall we let them? Or shall we prove to them that, though we want to be friends with both of them, we want first, and foremost, our INDEPENDANCE. But we have to earn it first. That independance cannot be gained through force of arms. We can be truly independant, if we can prove that we are "SELF-SUFFICIENT" both economically, socially, financially, and spiritually. We should be guided by our belief in one single God,. If He is named Allah or Jesus, does not matter. The second belief should be that the CITIZENS and their ultimate interests prevail upon every other consideration. Whenever we meet with any problem that requires a solution, the first question that ought to be answered is: "Does that solution work in the citizen's interest? It is as easy (or as difficult) as that. Will people understand it? Let us keep our fingers tightly crossed.
